Studio Diary: Recording bass

_DSC3916As most of you know, we currently have no bassist. Luckily our friend Pekka Löhönen (who already was supposed to co-produce the album and filled in at Tavastia) is a very talented and solid bass player. He promised to help us out with the bass parts. He and Jesse go way back and are from the same city, Varkaus. Jesse played with Pekka in his very first band.

So Pekka took his Sadowsky and headed from Helsinki to Jyväskylä to lay down some subsonic mayhem. He used EBS HD350 head, MXR Bass Compressor and ZVEX Basstortion to create his tone. As for the actual playing, we thought that this time bass should play more distinctive role and not just follow the guitars 1:1. Pekka came up with some cool hooks and basslines to give the songs the feel they needed.

Recording bass parts took two days to complete and the outcome was something that the band can be thankful to have on the album.

P.S. Inkvisitor is looking for a bassist!

Got something to say?
